Library Benches - pour concrete pads for 3rd bench
Details
This session will be to dig out, form and hopefully pour the concrete for the a Library bench along Rawson Road between the Auburn Trail and School Street. Depending on the number of volunteers this may take more than one session. The steps are simple:
- Dig out the soil to a depth of about 4" in an area a little larger than 5' by 10'. The soil will go on a tarp and used to back fill around the pad once the cement has cured enough to remove the forms.
- Install the 5' by 10' form for the concrete using 2x4s and wooden stakes.
- Place 1"-2" of gravel inside the form and tamp to provide drainage and level the surface for the concrete
- Mix concrete and fill the form about 1/2 way and then place reinforcing wire inside the form.
- Finish filling the form with concrete and screed level with a 2x4
- Finish the concrete using a hand float, edger and broom
- Cover and let cure for 3-5 days
We will meet at the Auburn/Rawson Rd trail crossing. All materials and tools will be provided. Dress to get dirty, however, you will not have to stand in the concrete. ;-)
