Work Party at Lehigh Crossing Park 7350 Víctor-Mendon Rd Victor, NY
Details
We will go back to trimming the invasive phragmites along the pond periphery, trying to be sure any stalks left are cut down to ground level or below the water level. The water is very high due to all the recent rains, so we may work on solid ground in the north-east section of the pond. I also plan to bring a few more plants and could use help finding the best place for them and placing a protective barrier around them.
Please wear sturdy, preferably waterproof work boots, bring work gloves, favorite loppers if you have them, water to drink, insect repellent (primarily for ticks-mosquitoes are rarely seen) maybe safety glasses or facial protection, depending on where we are working. I will have some cane cutters, a few loppers and clippers, a shovel, and rakes. Our continued work this year will contribute to a more supportive environment for the wildlife in the area and be more attractive to the people who visit.
About the photo: I took this pic just before during our work party (5/7/26). We were working in an area where hundreds of tadpole were swimming. When we first started, a Northern Leopard Frog was in the area, but left when we started working. The tadpoles did not seem to be bothered by our presence. Later when I went back to be sure the stems had been raked from the water, the frog was back, looking a little defensive about perhaps her or his progeny in the water?
Come have fun with us!
