Work Party at Lehigh Crossing Park 7350 Víctor-Mendon Rd Victor, NY
Details
We will be doing some planting of a few perennials (asters, a few native iris, and pussytoes) and placing a few more labels and protective cages. We may work on the periphery of the pond to cut back more phragmites. At the pond on Sunday so many plants are now emerging where we have been controlling the phrags. In particular, many aster-looks like New England, lots of lovely sedges, Golden Ragwort, all the Elderberry we have planted, lovely patches of Blue-eyed Grass, with tiny native bees busy pollinating them, cattails, that will provide ideal habitat for the Red-winged Blackbirds that have recently returned, and so much more.
Please wear sturdy, preferably waterproof work boots, bring work gloves, favorite loppers or a trowel and kneeler pad if you have them, water to drink, insect repellent (primarily for ticks-mosquitoes are rarely seen here) maybe safety glasses or facial protection, depending on where we are working. I will have some tools to share.
About the photo: Common Cinquefoil (Potentilla simplex) is
a native found in so many places, but it is especially lovely when we seek the early flowering plants that signal spring.
