Riding the TdV 100 km route

Details

With the Tour de Victoria coming up on August 17 it seemed like a good idea to bike one of the routes. There are many to choose from ranging in distance from 15 to 160 km. We’ve chosen the 100 km route although with a slight modification. Rather than biking along Craigflower Road we’ll use the E&N trail to increase safety. As in the TdV event, we’ll start in front of the Empress hotel and finish in front of the Legislature building.

If you are considering this ride please be aware that this is a challenging route given its length and a total elevation gain of 1,377 meters. That having been said, this will be a recreational ride, not a race. We're planning to enjoy the beautiful scenery while becoming familiar with the route's many hills, twists and turns. We'll try to average ~ 18 kph but will also stop whenever necessary to ensure that we all stay together, stay hydrated, etc. We’re also planning a stop at Mosi Bakery and Cafe on West Saanich Road at the 42 km mark for food, coffee, conversation. E bikes are welcome.

As with typical rides we’ll review safety issues at the start and, if there’s enough interest, go for a bite to eat downtown at the end. Note that given the length of the ride we'll start a bit earlier than usual - at 9 AM.
