What we’re about
We have changed our name, but are the same discussion-loving group!
Our goal is to have thought-provoking and informative discussions, as well as offer a safe environment for people to share their experiences of transitioning into secularism. If you identify as non-religious, irreligious, agnostic, secular, or similar, please join! We would love to meet you at our weekly event or during our annual meetup! (Hopefully there will be more activities planned soon too.) Our weekly meetup is at the Fantastico Bar-Deli on Harbour Road every Sunday at noon.
We usually discuss new members' journey into secularism during their first meetup, if they are interested. We enjoy talking about secular media and public figures who are openly irreligious. We also discuss scientific advancements, recent news, and the ever-evolving use of technology to spread information (and misinformation). More broadly, ideas like skepticism, rationality, cognitive bias, and the limits of our own intuition are frequented topics.
Feel free to ask a question or make a suggestion in the discussions section below! You can also direct message your thoughts, concerns, or suggestions for future events to Eric or Sam!
More info on Fantastico:
Fantastico Bar-Deli on Harbour Road it is one of the best delis in Victoria. It's very close to downtown and it has a great menu. "Over the bridge just minutes from the heart of the downtown core sits our newest expansion, Fantastico bar-deli. Overlooking Victoria’s industrial Inner Harbour, our café, bar and deli offers finely crafted coffee, an array of cured meats, cheeses, and accompaniments, full menu and an eclectic selection of craft ciders, sours, ales and wine." - From their website: https://caffefantastico.com/pages/bar-deli
Group updates:
- We have changed our group name (as of late November, 2023)! We're still the same group as before and are continuing our meetups and thought-provoking discussions! We thought the name change would be more inviting and inclusive; it is simply a label change. On top of our posted name change, the URL and announcements email has also changed, so be aware of that
- In the near future, we hope to expand the group and add more group oriented activities. We are thinking about trying board games, science events like star parties at the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory, and in person events hosted by CFI and other secular organizations.
Thanks for reading the updates :)

Have you given up your faith? Maybe you never had faith. Has your newfound or longstanding lack of faith been the source of difficulties? Has your lack of faith created conflicts with family? Friends? Neighbors? Coworkers? Why not take part in a discussion group where you can get things off your chest? No higher powers, no dogma. Just free expression, empathy, understanding, without judgment. We’re here for you. We are Living Without Religion, and you can too. This monthly recurring CFI Canada Virtual branch Meetup is hosted by Onur Romano every first Sunday of the month at 12pm EST (9am PST).
Living without Religion (LWR) is a monthly peer support group for those who have left their religion, are considering leaving their religion, and/or are encountering challenges with friends, family, classmates or co-workers due to religious differences. If you're already comfortable leading a secular lifestyle, you can also come to offer emotional support or advice, or just to enjoy a sense of social community that religions often offer.
Moderated by volunteers from the Virtual and Ottawa Branch of Centre for Inquiry Canada (CFIC), LWR meets first Sunday of every month from 12:00pm to 1:30 pm EST.
Please note that no one is here in a professional mental health capacity. We strive to be kind to each other, and as some attendees continue to hold faith in a deity or spiritual ideas, this is not a forum to challenge or convert anyone's current beliefs.
