Valentines Day Small Dog Walk
Details
Welcome back to another year of fun walks for us and our little four-legged friends!
We'll start this year off with a Valentine's Day walk from Royal Oak to Layritz Park. We've walked in this general area before, but we'll take a different route this time to keep us out of the muddy bits and puddles.
Starting at Tri-Eagle Plaza, just south of Royal Oak Shopping Centre, we'll head off on the Royal Oak Trail. As you may know, this paved section of the Centennial Trail is easy walking. All members of all abilities should be able to easily navigate this trail.
Just past Brydon Park, we normally take a left turn and head down the Colquitz River Trail. But on Saturday, we'll keep going straight, and walk down Lindsay Street. There's no sidewalk here; it's just a quiet leafy street. So walk on the asphalt, keep to the side of the road, and watch out for the possibility of a car coming along.
At the end of Lindsay Street, we'll turn south and walk a couple of blocks along Wilkinson Road to Mann Avenue. Turning right, we'll pick up the Glendale Trail and walk it into Layritz Park, where we'll turn around and retrace our steps back to Tri-Eagle Plaza.
The entire route is on either paved trails, sidewalks or roads, so that should mitigate muddy paws and dirty noses! As you can see from the maps attached in the Photos section, our distance is 4.2 km, and mostly flat except for a couple of small rises. If you want to attend, but only do part of the route, then head back, that's fine too, but please let someone know you're doing that so I can keep track of our numbers.
There are sections of this walk where your pup can be off-leash. There are also a couple of road crossings, so by all means control your dog as appropriate.
There's plenty of parking at Tri-Eagle Plaza, 4392 West Saanich Road. It is just off West Saanich Road, just south of Royal Oak Shopping Centre.
There are maps and street level pictures of our meeting place on Meetup.
