Victoria Urban Sketchers is a group of like-minded artists who enjoy bi-weekly outings to sketch interesting locations.
We usually sketch buildings, areas and people, and sometimes a location is a beach, a bridge, a park, or even a graveyard. Winter months may find us warming inside a cafe, a market, a museum, a pawn shop, a church, a pub, a ballet lesson. We try to find visually varied and sometimes challenging subjects.
Artists of all ages, over the age of 16, are welcome and are asked to bring their own supplies: i.e. a sketchbook or artist paper, pencils, pens and watercolour paint, if needed. A small fold-up camp stool is ideal for sketching. An umbrella or a poncho could be a good idea. Just in case. A large brimmed hat to protect you from the sun and perhaps a bottle of water. Never be cold. If it's cool, bring warm.
We love the rain. We live in a "rain forest," which subjects us to the odd shower. May we suggest that our members don't get frightened away but use the weather as an excuse to create a great sketch or some good art.
Our regular schedule is every two weeks on a Saturday morning. Following a two hour sketch we find a local coffeehouse or restaurant for a gathering to talk about art and creative inspiration, and to sometimes take pictures of our creations for this web site (your choice). Some of us also return to sketch some more.
Sketching is grassroots art. Join us and have a great time meeting new people and exercise that creative passion. All levels of experience are welcome, including none. Beginners are especially encouraged to participate. It's all about being a part of something and having fun while learning. No instruction, but very friendly people. As a plus, we have some really good artists members who you can team-up with and observe.
At Victoria Urban Sketchers we never show negativity toward someone's art. We welcome creativity of any sorts and applaud your individual effort. We sketch on sight and on site. And show us your art when it's finished. Go for it and create in whatever style you wish. Your creativity is yours and it will be received with wonder, joy and enthusiasm.

We draw on location, indoors or out, capturing what we see from direct observation.
Our drawings tell the story of our surroundings, the places we live and where we travel.
Our drawings are a record of time and place.
We are truthful to the scenes we witness.
We use any kind of media and cherish our individual styles.
We support each other and draw together.
We share our drawings online.
We show the world, one drawing at a time.
