VGMU!: Working with Open-Source Licenses: An Engineer's Field Guide

Details

RESCHEDULED. Please update your calendars. Same place, same time, but the day has moved forward to Monday, Dec. 12.

ORGANIZER'S NOTE: Will be streamed on Capital Factory's Youtube channel, https://www.youtube.com/user/austintechlive

SUMMARY: Working with open-source software in a commercial setting can be confusing and complicated. Ask a lawyer whether or not a license can be used and they're likely to say, "It depends," but open-source software is frequently seen in commercial settings. Come learn practical advice about using open-source software in a commercial product from an engineering and business standpoint.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Alan Uthoff, owner and CEO of Swordpoint Studios, will share his field guide on working with open-source in a commercial setting from his 14+ years as an engineer. About the speaker: Alan Uthoff is the CEO of Swordpoint Studios, LLC, in Pflugerville, TX. He has worked in and around the game industry for 14+ years, including large AAA and indie studios in almost every position in games from QA to lead developer. Alan enjoys creating and working with cross-platform game technology and building game tools to help others. When not working on game-related technology he enjoys spending time with his family and sharing his love of fencing as a coach and co-owner of the Round Rock Fencing Club.
