DAY TRIP WITH HIKE - HEILIGENKREUZ/MAYERLING

This weekend you are invited to join me to Southern Vienna Woods and its picturesque landscape. On this day trip, you will visit two of Austria's most interesting historical sites. We begin with a stop at Heiligenkreuz, a spiritual center since the Middle Ages.

After a leisurely 6–9 km walk, we reach Carmel Mayerling. This small castle was the scene of one of the most mysterious events in Austrian history. In January 1889, Archduke Rudolf and his mistress, Maria Vetsera, committed suicide at this very spot. The Crown Prince's death deeply shook the old monarchy and immortalized Mayerling.
