### VIENNA 1900. EVERYDAY A TOTAL WORK OF ART

(WIEN 1900. ALLTAG – GESAMTKUNSTWERK)
Location: MAK – Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna Opening: February 24, 2026
This exhibition marks the highly anticipated reinstallation of the MAK’s world-famous permanent collection dedicated to Viennese Modernism.
Rather than a traditional historical timeline, this new presentation reimagines the era through the eyes of contemporary artist Markus Schinwald. Developed in collaboration with the museum's curators, the exhibition moves away from a strictly chronological order to focus on the "history of ideas."
Key Highlights:

  • Atmospheric Staging: Schinwald has created "film-set-like scenarios" and unique architectural interventions to display the objects, offering a fresh, immersive way to experience the collection.
  • The "Total Work of Art": The show explores the Viennese ideal of the Gesamtkunstwerk—the seamless integration of art, architecture, and design into everyday life.
  • Masterpieces: Expect to see iconic works from the Vienna Secession and Wiener Werkstätte, including furniture, glass, textiles, and design objects by legends like Gustav Klimt, Josef Hoffmann, Koloman Moser, and Adolf Loos.

It is a contemporary remix of one of the most important periods in art history, designed to reveal the emotional and social stories behind the objects.

costs: At opening night the exhibition is for free. If you would like to explore the other exhibition you may have to buy a ticket. I am using the Bundesmuseencard
