🚉Starting point: Marchegg train station
The tour starts at the train station in Marchegg, a small town in the east of Austria, close to the border with Slovakia. Marchegg is easily accessible by car (approx. 45 min) or train (approx. 30 min) from Vienna city center.
🌉Section 1: Marchegg - cycle bridge over the March
From Marchegg, the route first heads east to the cycle bridge over the March, which connects Austria with Slovakia. The route runs on asphalt paths and is flat, which makes for a relaxed start. The bridge, which was opened in 2022, is a highlight of the tour and offers a great view of the Morava River and the surrounding nature.
🚵♀️Section 2: Slovakia - heading north
After crossing the bridge, you are in Slovakia. The route now leads north along the Morava. The route is mostly asphalted, with some sections on gravel paths. The landscape is characterized by alluvial forests, fields and small villages. The pace here can be leisurely, as the route remains flat and there is little traffic.
🌉Section 3: Crossing the Morava at Moravský Svätý Ján
After about half of the route, you reach the bridge between Moravský Svätý Ján and Hohenau an der March, which leads you back to Austria. This bridge is another opportunity to cross the Morava and experience the border region.
🚵♀️Section 4: Austria - heading south back to Marchegg
Back in Austria, the route now heads south, parallel to the March. The route is varied, with a mixture of asphalt and gravel paths. The landscape remains idyllic, with wide fields and forests.
🏁End point: Marchegg train station
