You voted for it! You get it. A road bike tour. Not long, no elevation, also not crazy fast but don't worry, this wasn't everything yet. Also we have never been in Tulln together.
Route Breakdown
Start & Outbound (South Bank): ≈ 30 km
Begin at Steinitzsteg and immediately drop down to the south riverbank. You'll follow the flat, paved Donauradweg (EuroVelo 6) passing Klosterneuburg and the Greifenstein power plant. This section is fast, mostly sheltered by trees, and ideal for building a steady cadence.
The Turnaround: Tulln an der Donau
Arriving in the city of Tulln (the birthplace of Egon Schiele), cross the Tullner Donaubrücke to transition to the north side of the river.
We'll take a 10-minute break at the halfway point.
Return (North Bank): ≈ 30 km
Head east along the Donauradweg North . This quieter, scenic stretch takes you through the alluvial forests of the Gemeindeau and past charming riverside villages before bringing you back toward the Vienna city limits.
The Finale: Danube Island (Donauinsel): 5 km
Cross the river again to access the Danube Island . The last 5 km follow the island’s flat, dedicated cycling asphalt, providing a smooth, uninterrupted ride straight back to your starting point at Steinitzsteg .
Distance: 65 km
Elevation gain: close to none
Max altitude: N/A
Average speed: 23-25 km/h (if we don't have significant headwind). This bike tour is not for everyone. Please only participate if you feel fit enough for this average speed. If you're too slow, we'll wait once or twice, but sooner or later you'll be left behind if you can't keep up.
Note: The route is almost 100% asphalted. A road bike or gravel bike is recommended.
