Short nightride on the Donauinsel

At dusk, we set off from the Barbados Inseltreff restaurant at the U2 Donaustadtbrücke for a leisurely ride along the Danube and the Donauinsel —city lights, water, and the group forming a chain of lights. Flat, easy to navigate, about 20 kilometers round trip with a short break at the end of the island near Freudenau. This isn’t a race, but a group night ride—lights on, stay together, and let the day wind down.

🚴‍♂️Route:

1. From Barbados Inseltreff over the bike and pedestrian bridge to the Danube riverbank in the 2nd district.
2. From there, ride downstream along the riverbank toward the Kraftwerk Freudenau.
3. At the Kraftwerk, we’ll head back onto the Donauinsel and ride to the end of the island.
4. Short break of 5–10 minutes.
5. From the end of the island, ride back to the first bridge leading to the riverbank in the 22nd district.
6. From there, ride upstream back to the starting point at Barbados.

Start: 6:00 p.m.
End: 7:30 p.m.
Route length: 20 km
Elevation gain: virtually zero
Pace: Since it’s dark, we’ll take it easy. Probably an average of 16–18 km/h. However, the slowest participant sets the pace.
Light Requirements: A working headlight and taillight are mandatory. Please check them before the start. For safety reasons, anyone arriving without lights will not be allowed to ride!
Meeting Point: In front of the Barbados Inseltreff restaurant / U2 Donaustadtbrücke. Be on time, bring something to drink, and dress for the weather.
