16th Vienna Data Engineering Meetup

Details

👋 Hi hi,

Our February meetup event is coming right up on February 19th and this time we're going to be back at Dynatrace, who is sponsoring and hosting us for the evening in their Vienna offices.

As usual, first we will have food and drinks and then, as of 6:30PM, we will start with our evening program.

Looking forward to seeing many of you there!
Rigerta & Davor

Agenda:

  • 18:00 - Doors open - food & drinks
  • 18:30 - Welcome talk by Dynatrace
  • 18:40 - Fernando Brito - Geospatial Data Demystified: A Gentle Guide for Data Engineers (+Q/A), Digital maps and navigation apps are part of our everyday lives — but what kind of data powers them behind the scenes? In this session, we’ll explore geospatial data from a data engineering perspective. Starting with foundational concepts, we’ll build up to advanced topics like grid systems and real-world applications. Whether you’re new to geospatial data or looking to broaden your skills, this talk will leave you inspired and ready to explore this exciting field further.
  • 19:30 - Break 🥤
  • 19:45 - Mohamed Mansour & Günther Hackl - A Century of Data Evolution: From AS400 to Data-Driven Insights (+Q/A), At WALTER GROUP, we encountered numerous challenges in reliably providing operational data in BigQuery. For handling terabyte sized tables from our monolith, the AS400 DB2, which doesn’t always play nice with standard tools, we had to explore multiple solutions before finding an approach that worked for us (and our budget). Join us in this session as we share our mistakes and successes in connecting our largest data source to a cloud data warehouse.
  • 21:00 - End

Speakers:

  • Fernando Brito (LinkedIn) is an independent Data Engineering consultant with a Software Engineering background. Originally from Brazil and now based in Sweden, he brings years of hands-on experience with geospatial data. His geospatial journey started with personal projects and led to becoming the first Data Engineer at one of Europe’s leading micromobility companies, where he later served as the Tech Lead for their Data Platform team. Passionate about making complex data accessible, Fernando is excited to share his expertise and spark your interest in geospatial technologies.
  • Mohamed Mansour (LinkedIn) delivered data solutions across 4 continents and 3 major cloud platforms. ex-Informatica, ex-IBM, and independently built an AWS data platform for an Austrian StartUp. Currently, a Senior Data Engineer at Walter Group, focusing on GCP ... and still learning!
  • Günther Hackl (LinkedIn) switched from physics at TU Vienna to data and has been with the DataOps team of WALTER GROUP for almost 4 years. He is currently a data architect working on an OnPrem+GCP focused data platform
