Snowflake and Generative AI on AWS

Hello everyone!

We are happy to announce the fall edition of the Vienna Data Science Tools meetup on September 21st, hosted as usual by Greentube at their headquarters on Wiedner Hauptstrasse!

This meetup is the second in our series of events dedicated to the Modern Data Stack.

We kick off with Piotr Pietrzkiewicz talking about the Snowflake Data Cloud. If you haven't heard of Snowflake, it is currently one of the most popular cloud DWHs (data warehouses) today, and as we discussed at the last meetup, cloud DWHs are at the core of the Modern Data Stack.

Then Paolo Di Francesco will talk about Machine Learning on AWS, more specifically about Generative AI/Large Language Models on AWS. As we've seen at the last meetup, the ML layer is one of the downstream layers that typically consumes the data that is neatly prepared inside the Cloud DWH, but whose output can also be used to enrich that data.

Snowflake Data Cloud (Piotr Pietrzkiewicz)

• Snowflake technical run though the lens of Tasty bytes - a food truck company using analytics to run their business. The session will be a mix of Snowflake theory and live demo. You will have a chance to learn what is Snowflake Data Cloud, how it looks like, how you interact but also how to start and where.

About the speaker:
Throughout his career, Piotr worked in various roles for companies like Amazon Web Services or Atos. During that time, he supported both private, hybrid and public cloud customers.
15 years of hands-on experience in transforming and migrating obsolete architectures into modern resilient solutions.
In Snowflake Piotr manages Sales Engineering team and assists customers on their way towards efficient data usage.

Build with Generative AI on AWS (Paolo Di Francesco)

• Generative AI has captured the attention of many and has shown the potential to revolutionize many industries. However, the question remains: how can you get started? In this presentation, I aim to introduce you to the AWS services that facilitate the rapid exploration of Large Language Models (LLMs) to lay the foundation for developing applications that leverages their capabilities. I will showcase a demo about a prototype that can help you quickly experiment within the AWS environment. For this example, we will use a method called Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) and experiment with different tools along with diverse LLMs to try to accomplish our goals.

About the speaker:
Paolo is a Senior Solutions Architect at Amazon Web Services (AWS). He holds a PhD in Telecommunication Engineering and has experience in software engineering. He is passionate about machine learning and is currently focusing on using his experience to help customers reach their goals on AWS, in particular in discussions around MLOps. Outside of work, he enjoys playing football and reading.
