Data Quality with dbt and efficient AI serving with fal.ai

Hello everyone!

We are happy to announce the winter edition of the Vienna Data Science Tools meetup on December 12th, hosted as usual by Greentube at their headquarters on Wiedner Hauptstrasse!

This meetup is the third in our series of events dedicated to the Modern Data Stack and AI.

We kick off with Sean McIntyre talking about dbt and how it can be used to ensure the quality of the data in your Modern Data Stack. If you haven't heard of dbt, it is the de facto standard tool in the Transformation Layer, and it is currently expanding its scope by adding features from other layers like the Data Quality Layer and the Orchestration Layer.

Then Meder Kamalov will talk about serving AI models with fal.ai. "fal" is an acronym for "Features and Labels", and fal.ai is an interesting startup because while they started out as a Feature Store Tool in the Modern Data Stack, they pivoted towards a platform for efficient AI model serving which, given the AI-hype we are currently living through, seems to be a very reasonable move.

Data Quality with dbt (Sean McIntyre)

• The delivery of high quality data is vital for organizations to make day-to-day and strategic decisions. Sean will explore data testing techniques, comment on various strategies, and show you how to leverage dbt's testing capabilities to ensure data quality.

About the speaker:
Sean is a Senior Solutions Architect at dbt Labs who works with organizations across Europe, helping them get started with and scaling dbt Cloud. In his last role, he was a Principal Data Engineer who implemented the modern data stack. Originally from Canada, his homebase is now Vienna.

Serving AI models with fal.ai (Meder Kamalov)

• Learn about navigating through the practical aspects of serving AI models. From optimizing cold start times to a step-by-step guide on developing and deploying an AI model to an API endpoint, the talk will cover nuts and bolts of AI implementation.

About the speaker:
Meder is a Software Engineer at Features and Labels, a start-up that is building fast AI infrastructure.
