Title of Talk:
Kafka beyond the obvious. An architect’s look at how we stream about our future

Abstract:
With hundreds of projects using Kafka in production, streaming is a successfully proven technology for exchanging data within, or between solutions. Yet, there is much more to Kafka and the ecosystem than “just” real-time data – be it the convergence of transactions and analytics, portability of data across environments, or the fostering of reuse across the organization. The talk will showcase lessons learned, some where Kafka truly shines, some where we still struggle.

Bio:
More than twenty years of experience in software development and related functions, both in small companies as well as large enterprises. As Head of Platform Architecture at Erste Group responsible for tech strategy of everything that eventually faces our customers. Intrigued by reactive programming.

Abstract:
This presentation distills critical insights and lessons from using Kafka in a large-scale project involving 100 developers. We will delve into common misunderstandings and pitfalls that teams encounter when integrating Kafka into their workflows, highlighting practical examples and solutions. The focus will be on the most important learnings garnered from our experiences, offering attendees a roadmap to navigate the complexities of using Kafka effectively in big projects

Bios:
Hannes is the CEO of Posedio, a company specializing in cloud-native development, with a solid foundation in software engineering. He is deeply passionate about cloud-native computing, distributed systems, and software architecture patterns. In his current consulting role, Hannes worked as the solution architect on a large-scale project involving 11 development teams. During this time, he gained valuable insights into the complexities and pitfalls of building intricate choreographies with microservices.

Damjan is the CEO/CTO of Posedio and has worked with some of the biggest Austrian companies and service providers in the retail, education and finance sector. He enjoys working with new, open- source cloud technologies with focus on security and scalability.
