💡 Speaker One:
Richard Putz, Solution Architect, Bearing Point

Title of Talk:
How to Build an Event-based Control Center for the Electrical Grid

Abstract:
Existing industrial systems cannot meet the requirements of modern network operators. Our projects aim to solve these challenges with sophisticated event-based architectures, with Apache Kafka at its core. These architectures need to solve complex requirements like switching high critical grid assets and integrate hundreds of thousands of sensors. We used a couple of event- based patterns like SAGAs, Event Sourcing and more to overcome those challenges. Additionally, we had to integrate the OT (legacy) systems in this modern tech stack. (IEC, OPCUA)

Bio:
Richard Putz is Solution Architect within BearingPoint and responsible for designing and implementing modern software architectures. He has experience developing solutions for critical systems and specializes in cloud computing and event driven systems.

Monolith to Mesh: Our Journey to Unlocking Data Potential

Abstract:
Feeling overwhelmed by the challenge of transforming an outdated system? Does the idea of a data mesh seem like just another buzzword? In this talk, we'll explore how Austrian Post is re-imagining its approach to data, moving from a centralized, monolithic structure to a more agile and flexible data ecosystem. We'll share honest insights, including, the obstacles we faced, the wins that made it all worthwhile and the long term vision behind it all. Expect an engaging conversation with real stories about navigating change, embracing new ways of thinking, and ultimately creating a better data-driven future.

First Steps in a New Direction: Migrating from a Monolith

Abstract:
In this talk, we will share our initial steps in transitioning from a monolithic architecture to a microservice-based solution using Kafka and we will outline the strategies we employed to begin this journey. Additionally, we will discuss the challenges we faced along the way and how we addressed them. Join us to learn about our experiences and insights gained from this transformative process.
