#40 Making a good cup of tea

Details
Making a good cup of tea. An introductory workshop.
Asian tea culture is not exclusively about the complicated processes of Japanese Chanoyu 茶の湯 and Southern Chinese Gōngfūchá 工夫茶 . For centuries, tea has also been prepared in many different more simple and pragmatic ways. In this workshop, we will introduce such methods: from “old people's tea” in a jar, to repurposing cereal bowls and simple gaiwan preparation. Which water is good? What temperature? How much tea is best? How do we pour? What should perhaps be avoided so as not to ruin the tea? The workshop will give you hints, but in the end it is always the taste and preference of the drinker that decides. And even if we pay attention to important details: playing with tea should always (also) be fun.
Workshop held by Dr Sven Schwannberger
Dr. Sven Schwannberger is a musician and a musicologist, teaching at the renowned Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
He has also been a student of Chinese tea culture for many years, mainly specializing in Chaozhou Gongfu Cha, and is always looking for ways to respectfully share his experience in the European context. His experience with tea is characterized by the common ground between the Asian and European history of as well as the unbridled joy he finds in refined ceramics, in collecting precious aromatic woods and in the practice of understanding fine teas. He prepares tea and teaches about tea culture at several European festivals and event series.
