#48 GONGFUCHA – an Introduction to Tea in Three Cups

Modern tea art offers a wide range of ways to prepare and enjoy tea. One of them is the traditional southern Chinese method of Gongfucha 工夫茶.
In this small workshop, we will gain first experiences with this type of tea art: washing cups, breaking leaves, touching teapots, pouring, tasting.
Insights into the history of Gongfucha will be paired with a tasting (品) of exceptionally high-quality Fenghuang Dan Cong tea and rock tea from the Wuyi Mountains.

Dr. Sven Schwannberger is a musician and musicologist who has also been a student of Asian tea culture for many years, specializing in Chaozhou Gongfu Cha. He is continually exploring ways to share Asian tea culture respectfully within a European context. His approach to tea and aromatic woods is shaped by a search for common ground between Asian and European histories of thought, as well as a joyful fascination with refined ceramics and the art of understanding fine teas. He regularly prepares tea and teaches about tea culture at various European festivals and event series.

We like to be nerdy and going deep into the matter, but don’t be scared if you are a newbie! There is always time for socialization, random chats, discussions and even the chance buy tea if you will!
