Vilnius DevOps Meetup #7

2018 Spring Vilnius DevOps Meetup #7 is coming! Get ready to enjoy quality time with fellow DevOps practitioners! We have three confirmed talks:

• OMG! Developing a Flexible Outage Mitigation Service - David Mather

Outages are a fact of life when developing any non-trivial system. We can stick our heads in the sand, we can write one-off-scripts that deal with them, or given the time and support, we can take things a little further. At Uber we've developed a platform for outage mitigation, which allows defining executable mitigation plans in YAML, which are then made available via both an HTTP API and CLI tooling. We'll dive into the thinking and conditions that led to deciding to build this automatable mitigation platform, and look at some of the ways Uber is currently using it to deal with outages.

• Infrastructure and Monkeys - Vytautas Maciulskis

Some companies have dogs to help with daily tasks, some companies outsource tasks to other companies, some use automation and robots. We, in Trustpilot, keep and train monkeys to help SRE team in everyday work and we keep them in the clouds. A short talk about 11 monkeys’ ordinary week in Trustpilot and how they save SREs’ time.

• From SRE embed to Reliability Squad: A journey of SRE - Donald Sumbry

Uber SRE originally started as a group of engineers that provided support for infrastructure at Uber. As the company quickly grew to thousands of engineers and thousands of microservices we realized that the traditional SRE support model was not going to be enough and we needed to evolve. This talk is all about Uber SRE: Past, Present, and Future. How we started with a traditional embed model and evolved to the team based model we use today.
