Vilnius.js Meetup #21

Details

Next Vilnius.js had to happen on October 6th, but because it was reserved by VilniusPHP, we did a joint meetup! At a new location for both communities - Cuba Studija (https://www.facebook.com/CUBAstudija/)!

For this reason there are 4 talks lined up:

• Marius Balčytis (https://github.com/mariusbalcytis) - Procedural programming for the win (not for Windows)

• Haim Michael (https://github.com/lifemichael) - TypeScript, Dart, CoffeeScript and JavaScript Comparison

• Avishai Ish-Shalom (https://github.com/avishai-ish-shalom) - Future of the Operating System

• Christian Zacharias (https://github.com/pulni) - What Makes a Good Developer?

Procedural programming for the win (not for Windows)
Sulaužysim vieną pagrindinių OOP principų, skiriančių jį nuo procedūrinio programavimo - atskirsime duomenis nuo juos valdančios logikos. Bandysiu įtikinti, kad toks būdas (dar vadinamas Anemic Domain Model) gali padėti rašyti pakartotinai panaudojamą ir lengviau palaikomą kodą.

TypeScript, Dart, CoffeeScript and JavaScript Comparison

Following the emergence of ECMAScript 2015 many developers wonder about the added value of using TypeScript. The same apply for many other programming languages that transpile into JavaScript, such as CoffeeScript, Dart, Scala.js, ELM and others. During our meeting we will go through a detailed comparison that overviews the capabilities of TypeScript, Dart and CoffeeScript (comparing with each other) as well as their added value comparing with writing our code in ECMAScript 2015.

Future of the Operating System
Linux distros and Windows NT both date back to 1993 and the principles of the operating systems we use today are rooted in that era. The way we use O/S and software has changed dramatically since, and the role of O/S has shifted considerably, giving birth to many tools trying to bridge the gap. This talk will cover the evolution of O/S in recent years and emerging trends which may prevail in the near future.
