THE CITY OF DAVID AND THE JEWISH QUARTER
The city of Jerusalem was established 3,000 years ago by King David. Choosing this location, and creating a capital for the tribes of Israel set in motion a chain of events that has led to Jerusalem being so central to three monotheistic religions. We will take a look at the areas of the City of David that have been recently excavated, perhaps even the King’s Palace. We will check out the underground water system, as well as the location of the meeting between King David and Batsheva.
From there, we will head to the Western Wall (the Kotel) and up into the Jewish Quarter. We will see the main square of today and hidden underneath, the remains of 2,000-year-old homes belonging to the Priestly Class serving in the Temple. We will visit a modern-day synaoguge nicknamed “The Ruin” and hear the story of how it got its name, and we will walk along the ancient Cardo, the heart of the city.
We will speak with some of the locals, and hear more about what makes this city unique.
