Little House Big House Mountain near Lexington, VA

REVISED TRIP

This outing will be one night followed by a hike the next morning to Little House Mountain. After this hike, we can return home. We will begin the hike at the House Mountain parking lot just west of Lexington, VA.

The trip starts Friday afternoon and ends late Saturday afternoon.

The timing for this trip is to coincide with springtime blooming of rhododendrons. These cover the full length of Little House Mountain's summit and can be beautiful. In previous outings in May, we have walked beneath a canopy of blooms.

Friday we will hike about 2 miles along a forest road to the saddle between the two mountains for our camp site. After setting up camp for those interested and there early enough, there is the option to hike to the Big House Mountain summit and enjoy the sunset before returning to camp.

Saturday morning, we will break camp leaving our gear at the campsite and hike to the summit of Little House stopping at its northern terminus for a packed in lunch.

After lunch we will return to camp, pick up our gear and head home.

I plan a recon trip to House Mountain on Wednesday May 21 and will report back. I always check the spring but this season has been wet so I don't anticipate issues. Will still investigate.
