What we’re about
Medics & Radios is a post-apocalyptic Live Action Role Play game that uses free online training courses and live events to teach real-world survival and outdoor skills.
Medics & Radios is free to join and our online courses and upcoming Field Manual and Task Books are free to download and use.
How Medics & Radios Works
Medics & Radios structure is built on FEMA’s Incident Command System, just like every real emergency services agency in the US. FEMA’s free courses, IS 100: Introduction to ICS and IS 700: Introduction to the National Incident Management System are easy and quick to complete and provide a basic understanding of NIMS and ICS.
Medics & Radios uses free online training from FEMA and the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) and other agencies, which gives Medics & Radios LARP’ers some of the exact same training as US law enforcement, EMT’s and firefighters.
Boy Scout Merit Badge Standards
Medics & Radios is not involved with Scouting and all our courses and events are for adults only (18+), but the courses are developed to merit badge standards because it provides a consistent goal that any adult should be able to reach.
The first aid techniques in the First Aid merit badge are all the first aid there is, for instance. Anything more complex than Boy Scout first aid is officially called pre-hospital care.
Using merit badge standards gives everyone involved a consistent goal.
Medics & Radios Basic Course
The Medics & Radios Basic Course Phase 1 covers the First Aid, Radio and Rifle Shooting merit badge content, combined with the online FEMA Incident Command System and NWCG basic wildfire training – shoot, move and communicate, using airsoft guns in a post-apocalyptic desert setting (everything in the desert is post-apocalyptic).
Phase 2 is equivalent to the Hiking, Orienteering and Geocaching merit badges plus another level of FEMA and NWCG online courses.
Phase 3 is a weekend exercise that covers Backpacking, Camping and the Emergency Preparedness merit badges plus the FEMA CERT online training.
Phase 4 is a weekend exercise that covers Wilderness Survival and Search & Rescue.
The Medics & Radios Basic Course is 11 merit badge equivalencies plus enough FEMA and NWCG training to function as a wildland firefighter, over a several month period with copious online training, topped off with 2 weekend exercises.

Medics & Radios Basic Concept
Medics & Radios is a Post Apocalyptic Live Action Role Play game (LARP) that teaches real world outdoor skills using scenario training. The basic M&R scenario is that you are on the other side of 'the apocalypse' and have found an old fart who is retired from adventuring and runs (very) basic outdoor skills training.
The Medics & Radios Basic Course meets the BSA merit badge qualifications for First Aid, Radio, Rifle Shooting, Hiking, Orienteering, Geocaching, Backpacking, Camping, Emergency Preparedness, Wilderness Survival and Search & Rescue
As well as the FEMA IS 100, 200, 700 and 800 free online certifications and the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) free online Wildland Firefighter courses.
The Medics & Radios Basic Course is 11 merit badge equivalencies plus enough FEMA and NWCG training to roleplay functioning as a wildland firefighter, over a several month period with copious online training, topped off with 2 weekend exercises.
