Wild West for DataViz in AR/VR

Details

Welcome to 2024! I want to get back into hosting more online events for our global dataviz community in 2024. For our February event I will be presenting my talk about dataviz design in virtual reality environments!

As Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) platforms become more mainstream, more and more use cases involving the display of data in this new format are emerging; health data, navigational directions, product information, weather data, restaurant ratings, shopping prices and more. For entertainment, manufacturing and healthcare professionals, uses of mixed reality environments will all include visualizing data to provide information to the viewer.

The temptation is to make these new data visualizations bright, 3D and flashy, using the latest design tools and animations. Often, that will actually make the data more difficult to perceive and understand for the user. The data visualization industry has been fine tuning the craft of effective communication for a long time, and there are some core best practices that designers of immersive environments need to understand.

With the launch of the Apple Vision Pro, there is a lot of renewed interest in this topic.

This is an online Global DataViz Meetup event, and will be being attended by multiple DataViz Meetup groups from around the globe. This event will be recorded.

2-STEP REGISTRATION:
Step 1 - RSVP here on Meetup to see the Online Event link.
Step 2 - Click the Online Event link to go to the Zoom Registration page, and complete the Zoom registration.
(Don't believe the Meetup popup that says "Join the Event" when you click the link on Meetup. You're just going the Zoom registration link.)

Do it now... you're not fully registered for the event until you've completed the Zoom registration. Zoom will send you the link to connect to the live event.
