From Aperitif to the Cloud: A Deep Dive into Our IoT Dev Stack – And the myth of the Full Stack Developer by Michael Bertel
In this talk, we’ll take a deep dive into the IoT development stack behind LimIoT, our IoT-Platform for all of our smart hospitality products.
From embedded systems to the web, I'll highlight the more “special” aspects of our architecture. Focusing on the awesomeness of MQTT and the challenges we've encountered so far.
Over the past 4 years, we've developed and launched several smart IoT products for the hospitality industry. LimIoT is an integral part of all these products. We did all of this with a very small team of two developers (one hardware and one software).
Therefore, I’d love to discuss a controversial topic: Should developers specialize in a single technology stack, or can a broader, full-stack (in our case including embedded, backend, and frontend) approach even work at all?
Coolify: The Open-Source, Self-Hosted PaaS – Escape the Vendor Lock-In by Jeremias Rusch
In this talk, we will explore Coolify, an open-source, self-hosted alternative to Vercel, Heroku, and Netlify.
Many popular hosting platforms have recently been in the spotlight for discontinuing their free tiers, forcing developers to look for cost-effective and flexible alternatives. Instead of constantly purchasing new servers or isolating every project in Docker for security reasons, we searched for a better solution—and we found Coolify.
Coolify offers automatic deployments after a push, support for multiple branches and projects, the ability to connect multiple servers, and even an external build server to balance the load.
I will share how we have been using Coolify since 2023 to deploy projects across different frameworks while significantly reducing our cloud provider costs. We’ll discuss Coolify's strengths, weaknesses, and my perspective on the future of hosting.
