What we're about

Meet other local, fanatic rec volleyball players, those who play in sand and/or indoor courts. All are welcome! Will soon update with a listing of weekly locations to play in DC and Maryland.

So far have locations on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday evenings. Am interested in starting up a regular Sunday night sand volleyball meetup/play at 7:15 PM, located on the TWO sand courts adjacent to the Olney Swim Center in Montgomery County. Courts have lights until 11 PM and are free.

Please respond to indicate level of interest. Also, if members indicate how far they will travel to play, I can try to find local locations for all to play near your homes. I personally tend to play more in Maryland but also in Alexandria, Crystal City and on the Mall courts. Don't know of many courts in NE DC or PG County. Clue me in, please.

I know of sand courts at University of Maryland, Olney Swim Center, Glen Ora Park & College Gardens in Rockville, the courts near Potomac and Kennedy Center.......oh,& the Crystal City courts that are sand on top of concrete. If any members know of additional courts WITH nets up, please email me and let me know. I will add to my database of listings.

Wisconsin Place Community Center, Friendship Blvd. , Chevy Chase, MD

This is a weekly, recurring activity, only impeded by inclement weather, annual two week cleaning closings and acts of God, as it were. So, PLEASE, come out and play....
Hours here have been somewhat impacted. They now close at NINE PM. As an adjustment, the management has offered to allow us to begin at 5:30 PM. SO, let us show up early, folks!

This Meetup location is especially suited to those dependent upon the Metro rail and Bus systems. This location is one block off of Wisconsin Avenue, a block north of the DC line, just up from Mazza Gallerie and a Metro station. Parking is really the worst issue here at present. If you drive, expect to walk a couple blocks or pay to park....

For whatever reason, Wisconsin Place CC has yet to suffer the slings and arrows of Youth Basketball overrunning their facility. It is brand spanking new and a lovely place to play. PLEASE come out and play so that we can play 4s, 5s, 6s. If another eight of you guys show up, we can play some 6s. Compared to what we have been playing that would be a walk in the park. We need more bodies on the courts so check this place out. It rocks! So, come on down and join us..........new uprights, new nets..........OLD balls......all the backboards and the divider move up and down with a key....very high tech.

Please RSVP so we know how many to expect to join us. Come on, you guys. We can fill this place with up to 24 total players, counting in the 8 or so already there weekly. See you there.

So, check us out and see if we are up to your personal playing standards. What have you got to lose, except a couple pounds and some sweat? You might actually have a good time.....Hope to see you all out on the courts.....our courts, that is.

Speaking of which, I do suggest that with two courts that we play winners from each court and so on all evening long. Playing the same players over and over again may not be as entertaining as switching up. Just a suggestion for you all to consider.

Now, if I could JUST find some players to go out afterwards for a couple cold ones to rehydrate, THAT would be lovely. Any suggestions for nearby watering holes will be entertained. Meiwah is open until 10:15 for sitdown, Chipotle is open until 10 PM.....both across Willard from Wisconsin Place. THe Golden Booeymonger is open until 1 am and is a block south. Across the street from there, Chadwick's kitchen serves until 1:30 and TUESDAY is Longneck Beer night.....$2.50 or $3 a bottle. Join me for a beer?

Join me for a COLD one and a nosh, post Volleyball games. One must needs re hydrate.

Wednesday MD/DC VB@Mid County Comm Center, 2004 Queensguard, Aspen Hill 6-9 PM

This is a weekly, ongoing meetup for VB. One needs to acquire a Mont County gym ACCESS card to use county gyms. IF a county resident, the cost for an annual gym access picture ID card is $30. County residents end up paying about 50 cents a week for gym access. For those out of Mont County, the annual cost is $45. This breaks down to a cost of approximately 77 cents per week.

Members,

This is a weekly, recurring event. Unless there is a natural disaster, power outage or a Federal or state holiday, this Wednesday night VB meetup proceeds on schedule. For now, it is 6:00 PM until 9 PM. Parking is ample and there are both water fountains and bathrooms. This is a new center that only opened back in July or so. Come on down and check it out. Your comments and feedback are welcome.

Moreover, the Olney Manor Park sand courts (2 of them) are very active on Wednesday nights until 11 pm and the night lighting is free to the public as long as you keep the ON button pressed regularly.

Please respond and let me know your levels of interest. I WILL continue to look for indoor and outdoor courts for all to play on closer into the city for you downtown denizens. I will look for Metro accessible locations as well. As always, your feedback and input is both appreciated and requested.

This is a weekly, ongoing meet up for pickup VB. One needs to acquire a Mont County gym ACCESS card to use county gyms. IF a county resident, the cost for an annual gym access picture ID card is $35. County residents end up paying about 50 cents a week for gym access. For those out of Mont County, the annual cost is $45. This breaks down to a cost of approximately 77 cents per week. Please come out in numbers. Members, This is a weekly, recurring event. Unless there is a natural disaster, power outage or a Federal or state holiday, this Wednesday night VB meetup proceeds on schedule. For now, it is 8:15 PM until 9:45 PM.

Parking is ample and there are both water fountains and bathrooms. There are TWO courts here but OFTEN only enough players to use ONE. So, Please, come out and play. We have room here. Last Wednesday, there were only sufficient players to populate ONE court, first nine then 12. Most of the resident population of weekly players here are C level players so competition won't be so strong UNLESS enough players show up to populate the SECOND court. There is enough capacity to accommodate another TWELVE VB players here on any given Wednesday night. So, COME OUT & play. On Wednesday nights, Bauer Rec Center runs from 8:15-10:00 PM with their VB open gym. They have two courts if there are enough to overfill the first court. Also, if enough folks are interested, I will find us a local watering hole to rehydrate post Meetup sessions. Your comments and feedback are welcome.
