Submission Deadline: AUG 31ST 2013

Bushwick, Brooklyn (Thursday, August 8th 2013) With the August 15th submission deadline fast approaching, the programming department has been working around the clock to make sure the process is seamless. Nevertheless, we welcome the challenge because being overwhelmed means we are doing things right. As the Director of Programming at The Bushwick Film Festival for the last 6 years, I am honored to say that I have watched every film that has ever been submitted and have so much gratitude for the filmmakers that choose our festival to present their work. I’ll refrain from being too specific regarding submissions we've already received because we haven't officially selected any films. However, I will say we have received submissions from nearly all continents! I am more than thrilled with the remarkable films we've been presented with and enthusiastic about what we will receive at the 11th hour. I'd also like to acknowledge that we have a large percentage of films submitted from BFF Alumnus. This means that our filmmakers have been pleased with our service. Ultimately, they are why we do this.

The Festival celebrates talented and passionate filmmakers who manage to overcome all obstacles and shoot their films independent of the studio. This year we are dedicating each of our venues to a specific theme as a way to encourage discussion and provide our audience with the choice to enjoy films with a more focused lens. The themes are Gender & Sexuality, Auteur, International, Social and Environmental Justice, Animation and Experimental. All films are in competition for the winning package valued at $10,000. Our Jury, will select one film to win the BFF Best Film Award and winning package.

From October 3rd through October 6th, the four-day festival will screen 10 feature-length films and 15 short films. We will also facilitate panel discussions, conversations, pitch workshops and an industry dinner. Finally, we will have our very first New Media Interactive Day. This is all part of the festival’s commitment to provide a unique platform for indie filmmakers and engage the community in the art of storytelling.  Additionally, in an effort to get the community more involved, attendees living in Bushwick will have the opportunity to rate films to determine the winner of The Bushwick Choice Award. The festival will conclude with the awards presentation of the Jury’s selection.

All though this is our 6th festival, we have been operating as an arts organization for 7 years. Witnessing our organization grow organically has been really rewarding. Like each year, I am confident that the program will be unique and inspiring. Our filmmakers have yet to deliver otherwise. Stay tuned for the announcement of our full program in September!

with love and appreciation,
