Kayak Moses Creek
Details
Join us as we view several different ecosystems from the Matanzas River to the shores of windy Moses Creek. Please arrive at 8:30 for a 9 AM launch.
Steve Mullen, who is well-known to many of you, will be joining us for this event as he is very knowledgeable about this area.
We'll put in at Butler Park West. There is a concrete boat ramp with flush toilets, pavilions and picnic tables. Our route will take us across the Matanzas River and we'll hug the western shore to the mouth of Moses Creek. We'll follow the many twists and turns past some bluffs up to the floating dock.
Round trip will be about 6 1/2 miles.
Spoonbills are commonly seen here. If we're lucky will also see an array of wading birds inhabiting the salt marsh.
Crossing the broad river can be choppy depending on the wind that day, but Moses Creek is protected and should be calm. I have rated this event for intermediate paddlers ('yakers with their own gear, capable of kayaking ten miles), but if you are lacking in experience or endurance, please join us on another date for a less challenging paddle. Afterward, those who care to will get together at a nearby eatery for lunch.
Registering on Meetup is not enough. You must also register on the Sierra Club site at:

Bring hat, water, screen and a snack. PFD's must be worn for this event.
