When we started this campaign over a year ago, it was all about how term limits were wrongfully and illegally overturned. We have since criticized Bloomberg's policies as a means to an end, such end being his dismissal from public office for his blatant betrayal of public trust and his abuse of power. However, our core message remains the same; what Mayor Bloomberg, Speaker Christine Quinn and her twenty-eight City Hall accomplices did to overturn term limits was tantamount to a complete rejection of principles of good government and democracy.?
Term limits or no term limits is a legitimate question to debate. Each has its pros and cons and a civilized body politic may so rightfully disagree. Having the public servants from the governmental bodies to which term limits apply overturn such limits on themselves is the equivalent of an overthrow of our government. Bloomberg and Quinn are stealing democracy from under our noses.
"Experienced leadership in time of crisis" and "more choice" are lies used to justify the rejection of democracy as we know it. Bloomberg has spent close to $100 million to spread these lies and paint himself in a favorable picture.
Something is rotten in the State of Denmark. November 3 is our chance to fix it.
September 15 showed us that the average New Yorker is a political ostrich. Voter turnout was at a record low. Our democracy is at risk of extinction. Voting is more than just a right: it is a privilege for which we have fought and shed blood.
Are you willing to let our democracy be bought and tossed aside, or are you proud to be American and stand for something that is greater than yourself?
If you care to save our democracy before it is gone, join us in volunteering for the Democratic candidate for mayor Bill Thompson. A link to where you can volunteer to sign up is below.
