Join us on May 5 for a very special presentation from the USA Today Emerging Tech team. They will discuss design and development best practices, identifying project opportunities, and their workflow to bring a story to AR.
You will learn about photogrammetry, mobile AR for storytelling, best practices and pitfalls, and more broadly, how augmented reality is used today to take journalism to a more engaging, immersive level.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Will Austin is a designer at USA TODAY NETWORK who creates impactful, engaging, and accessible experiences for the Emerging Tech team. With his disciplines in user interface and experience design, graphic illustration, as well as 3D modeling and animation, Will has taken on the challenge of leveraging emerging technologies to tell the news from a new perspective.

Before his role at USA TODAY NETWORK, Will worked in the game industry as an Artist at Electronic Arts, where he used his design skills to react quickly and adapt to a diverse, ever-changing user base across multiple platforms.

Alan Davies is a software developer at USA TODAY NETWORK on the Emerging Tech team. He has enjoyed creating experiences in AR and VR with different software and hardware namely Oculus, HTC Vive, Daydream, React 360, A-Frame and native apps using Unity. The ability to adapt and overcome is what has kept Alan engaged and always learning in this fast pace industry. Before the USA TODAY NETWORK, Alan worked in the game industry as a software engineer on massively multiplayer online games. Alan also enjoys tinkering with electronic circuits, cars and 3D printing in his spare time.

Alex is a software developer on the Emerging Tech team. Besides programming within Unity, he supports the team in animation, photogrammetry, and 3D modeling wherever necessary.
Alex started as an intern with USA TODAY, then spent a summer building VR animation tools for Walt Disney Animation Studio before returning to the Emerging Tech team full time.
His favorite part of his role is working with journalists to learn the nitty gritty details of every story that Emerging Tech helps to tell.
