Hawkevale Bushland in High Wycombe has already been recognised as containing one of the three most threatened plant communities remaining on the Swan Coastal Plain. There has since been a formal recommendation that 20 hectares – the best bits – need to be conserved to maintain their environmental value.
Club member Penny Hussey OAM will expertly help us identify what we're seeing and explain why it's growing where it is.
The reserve lies at the north-east corner of the built-up area, adjacent to Roe Highway. We'll enter the reserve at the south-east gate.
Turn north off Kalamunda Road onto Hawkevale Road. Follow it to a T-junction, facing the reserve fence. Turn east onto Buttercup Crescent, park on the verge where the road makes an abrupt turn south.
