UPDATE 9/12: I SENT THE FOLLOWING EMAIL TO ALL "GOING" FOLKS: HERE AGAIN FOR AWARENESS:
Getting excited to see everyone next week at Grayson. If I remember correctly, there are not places easily accessible for grabbing food/bev close to the state park (other than the park office). Please plan accordingly. Let's do a potluck on Friday night, plan on packing a lunch for Saturday on-the-go and self-reliance for dinner on Saturday night. Breakfasts are also self-reliant. I know this group and we love to share and cook for others, so I assume that remains the same here - so take my guidance as you want to. There is a convenience store at the marina. If anyone is RENTING a kayak from the marina, please note that where the marina is and where we will be kayaking are far apart. Transporting your boat will be necessary. I also suggested getting a pontoon to see more of the lake. I am open to that idea. Please note on the Meetup site comments for Grayson Lake if you also want to cost-share a pontoon ride. A 4-hour ride will be approx $40pp for 8 people. If we have less than 8 - the cost will be divided by the # of people. If more than 8 - we will need two boats or there is a chance of getting a boat to accommodate 12 ppl. We have to have the boat back by 6p - which means that we would have to get the boat by 2p - which might be tight - or we just don't use the boat for the full 4 hours (we can also switch out groups 2 hours each - and cut the price further!!), we have LOTS of options. Dan also wants to do a hike - approx 3+ miles - and there was talk about bringing bikes - as usual - we will stay very busy - we might also try to get on the water on Friday evening if time allows. Please bring your PFD and a kayak light in case we are on the water after sundown. As usual - put your comments/thoughts in the meetup for group awareness. Can't wait to see you all!!! Joanna
Join us for an unforgettable weekend in Kentucky at Grayson Lake State Park, and Grayson Lake Reservoir. Grayson is an amazing lake to paddle; narrow, with lots of nooks and crannies to explore. We will make our way to the grotto, where you pull yourself through the narrow slot canyon to a hidden waterfall - other waterfalls & beautiful scenery are everywhere. We may also rent a pontoon to see more of the lake if that is of interest. This is a big lake, so having a larger boat and experience will come in handy here.
Grayson Lake Campgrounds is one of the most pristine campgrounds I've been to. Large, well-kept sites welcome campers with tents, RV, trailers or whatever you have. You cannot paddle from the campgrounds, put-in for the lake is a couple of miles away, so you will need a way to transport your boat. Let's get a line of sites together - so that we can fully enjoy the area - I am hoping for some leaf colors - to make this one of the best trips of the year. I can extend it a day or so either side of this time, I just wanted to get it on the radar. To book a site go to ReserveAmerica and look up Grayson Lake. I'll post my site number once I'm booked. It looks like site 8-12 are still together in a group.
