Description: The American Woodcock is a woodland shorebird that looks kind of like a camouflaged football. Males do a surprisingly graceful aerial “dance” to attract mates in winter and early spring.
Come watch one of the wonders of the bird world. Bring your binoculars or borrow a pair of ours. Also bring a warm coat and gloves! Children must be accompanied by adults. No pets.

Pre-registration is required (at the links provided above). We start at 5 at the picnic shelter, then move indoors to the old farmhouse, then proceed to the meadow along the edge of the parking lot when darkness falls. Program concludes at 7:30 pm.
Note that there is a new intersection for Ligon Mill Road to access Horse Shoe Farm Road (one block north of the old intersection).

If you have questions, please feel free to contact Tracy Feldman at tracy.feldman@raleighnc.gov; or at 919-996-2274.
Meet in the picnic shelter near the parking lot at Horseshoe Farm Nature Preserve 2900 Horseshoe Farm Rd, Wake Forest, NC, 27587 .
