Join Wake County staff for rare access to the South Wake Landfill to bird watch. Nearly 90 species have been recorded at this site and the winter is the most active time. Thousands of gulls, dozens of eagles, and many other birds often go there to eat.

The tour will include a combination of birding from a van with other participants and standing together at a designated location to observe. This is a group activity, participants will not be able to move about the landfill on their own.

There will be uneven ground and possibly mud if it has recently rained. Participants must be able to get into and out of an elevated van. It is possible that a folding mobility walker may fit in the van, check with the organizers.

IMPORTANT: Participants must be 18 or older on the day of the event. One MUST register and complete a waiver in advance. This is a restricted area and you will be turned away if you show up without first meeting these requirements.

NOTE: If you went on a prior trip, please consider giving others the chance to have this experience.
