Our Thursday evening chess sessions at King in the North (6:30pm) are relaxed, welcoming, and open to players of all abilities — from complete beginners to experienced competitors. These are casual, social sessions guided by a dedicated chess coach/tutor who helps players learn the little tricks, openings, tactics, and deeper strategies that take your game to the next level.
Whether you want to improve your skills, sharpen your tactics, or simply enjoy friendly games in a great atmosphere, this session is about learning together, playing regularly, and building a real chess community in Wakefield.
Membership & Pricing:

• Free for King in the North members
• First session is completely free for non-members
• After that: £30 per month, which includes:
• Access to the weekly Thursday chess sessions
• Unlimited use of the facility whenever we’re open
• We are open 7 days a week

You don’t need to be an expert to join — just turn up, play, learn, and enjoy the game. Everyone is welcome. ♟️
