The Black Mountain Circuit
Tafarn-y-Garreg Pub & Camping,, Tafarn-Y-Garreg, Pen-y-Cae, SA9 1GS,, Swansea, GBDon't be fooled, this is not the Black Mountains in the East but is the Black Mountain in the West! Confusing! We'll meet at Tafarn y Garreg, where there is off the road parking on the lane just north of the pub, and then it's out into the wildest countryside south of North Wales. We walk through a dramatic landscape with sink and shake holes before ascending to the ridge above Llyn y Fan Fach. Then it follows the high ground to the summit of Bannau Brycheiniog and then the wonderful descent along the long ridge of Fan Hir, passing Llyn y Fan Fawr along the way. This route is coloured with legend. Keep an eye out for the fairy folk...

Ebbw Valley Circuit
Aberbeeg, Nant Blg, A4046, GBThis is the first in a new, occasional series of hikes, delivered by leaders other than Andy. Designed by members, for members, and delivered in a similar format.
Amanda will be leading a hike that begins in the glorious village of Aberbeeg, where the rivers Ebbw and Ebbw Fach combine to form, you guessed it, the River Ebbw :) The hike takes you through woodland to the tops of both sides of the valley, first heading north towards Ebbw Vale and then south and back to the start point.
This hike is 22km and 670m of ascent, so, a tough day, but one that builds on our Valleys hikes and that will surprise you with the interest in the landscape and the industrial heritage of the area.
Use W3W's to find the meeting point - ///hazelnuts.umpires.courage or Google Maps - https://maps.app.goo.gl/YE6mKC1c1weAHh3y9
For monthly members, these hikes are not part of your package, and so all will need to register by either signing up here on meetup or to avoid paying fees to meetup by 'buying me a coffee' and messaging this event saying I paid, please add me.
All income from the hike goes to the leader, in this case, Amanda.
Please support this new initiative, which, if successful, will see this group delivering more of what you like to get up to at weekends :)

Olchon Valley and the Cat's Back
Black Hill Car Park, Black Hill Car Park, Upper House Farm,, HR2 0PL, Hereford, GBPlease note this. is a 9 am start, and parking is limited, so please car share from Abergavenny if possible.
I've not hiked the Cat's Back for about thirty years, so I thought it was time to return to this area and, while at it, take in the countryside of the Olchon Valley, walk a little bit of Offa's Dyke and top out on Hay Bluff too. The Cat's Back is a narrow (but not scary) ridge that we will use to descend back to our cars at the end of the day. It marks the last of the high ground of the Black Mountains, with Bannau Brycheiniog to the West and Herefordshire to the East.
For the route, see the photos for this event.

Ogmore by Sea - Castle, Cliffs, Caves And Perhaps A Swim
Ogmore-by-Sea car park, Seaview Drive, CF32 0PB,, Ogmore-by-Sea, GBIt's a day out by the sea, meeting at Ogmore by Sea and following the coast to the mouth of the Afon Ogwr, then along the river to Ogmore Castle. If available, we'll cross on the stepping stones and visit Merthyr Mawr before crossing the river via a lovely bridge and heading over the common to St Brides Major. Maybe a pub stop is in order here... We'll then head to Southerndown, and if the tide is good on the day, we'll have an adventurous finish to our hike, following the intertidal zone back to the car park. There will be an opportunity to explore some caves, and of course, weather permitting, to swim.
