# Environmental Sustainability: Fact, Fiction, and Open Discussion

Dear Members,

Environmental sustainability has become one of the most important, and often most debated topics of our time. Every day we encounter headlines, social media posts, documentaries, and product claims telling us what is "green," "natural," "eco-friendly," or "sustainable."

But how often do we have the opportunity to openly discuss these topics with others and explore different perspectives?

This meetup is designed to do exactly that.

We'll start the meeting by hearing your experiences, opinions, questions, and observations. Whether you're passionate about environmental issues or simply curious, your perspective is welcome.

Possible discussion topics include:

  • Textiles and fashion
  • Plastics and recycling
  • Electric vehicles
  • Climate change
  • Renewable energy
  • Food and agriculture
  • Green product claims
  • Any other environmental topic that interests you

For those interested in textiles as all of you have accumulated direct experiences in using them throughout your lives, some discussion questions may include:

  • "Fast-fashion" vs. "slow-fashion"
  • Natural fibers vs. Synthetic fibers
  • Recycling, upcycling and reuse
  • Microplastics in our body
  • "Eco" and "bio" alternatives
  • Quality of textile goods

The discussion will naturally follow the interests of the participants.

Scientific evidence, engineering principles, and lifecycle thinking will be introduced where appropriate, not to tell anyone what to think, but to encourage thoughtful, respectful, and evidence-based conversations.

This is not a debate about winning an argument. It is an opportunity to learn from one another, challenge assumptions, and better understand the complexities of environmental sustainability.

Whether you're an engineer, scientist, student, educator, environmental advocate, fashion enthusiast, or someone who simply wants to explore these topics with an open mind, we'd love to have you join us.

Everyone is welcome. We look forward to an evening of meaningful conversations, new perspectives, and shared learning.
