Walk Oscar Sherer POSTPONED-rain forecasted
Details
(Meetup shows wrong meeting time)
Update on Feb.4: the National Weather Service is now showing a 65% chance of rain for tomorrow morning during the walk time. I will check again at dinner time tonight and if forecast Remains the Same, the walk will be postponed.
As of Feb. 2, the forecast for Feb.5 shows temperatures above 60° but with some strong wind gusts. The majority of this walk is completely sheltered by tall trees, but the viewing platform is obviously wide open. We should be okay on Thursday.
Our first Oscar Sherer walk was on the green trail to the eagles nest. Next, we took the South Creek Nature Trail. Today, we will head out to the Big Lake.
Drive to the very end of the park road which ends in a small parking lot, adjacent to the Legacy Trail. There is a pavilion with picnic tables and restrooms nearby.
We will be at the picnic tables from 9:45 to 10:00 a.m.. About 200' on the Legacy Trail brings us to a fairly steep little hill to join the orange trail. Cross South Creek, then along the creek (with 2 entrances to gopher tortoise tunnels). We'll join the yellow trail to head to the viewing platform at the Big Lake.
To get back to our cars, we can either retrace our steps or return on the yellow trail.
Park entry fee is $4 for a vehicle with one person, $6 for more than one person.
