The 287 acres of Scherer Thaxton Preserve contain a beautiful lake, surrounded by a trail, dotted with benches, picnic tables, a kayak launch and fitness activities. The preserve borders the NE corner of Oscar Scherer State Park and to allow wildlife access to both the state park and the county preserve, there is no fence between the two properties.

There used to be a wildlife trail from the rear of the preserve into Oscar Scherer. The county's new description of the preserve now says a "primitive hiking trail links the preserve to Oscar Scherer State Park." That trail is shown on the new map of the preserve, so even though I have not walked that trail from the preserve into the park, I trust that it is there..... so let's walk it. We'll walk to the viewing platform at Big Lake inside the state park..

No entry fee into this county preserve. Restrooms are next to the parking lot.

Meet in the parking lot prior to 10:00 a.m. so we can introduce ourselves. I will be the person with the very sweet black German Shepherd. We will leave the parking lot at 10:00 a.m. sharp and walk around the lovely lake and then head to the big lake in Oscar Scherer.

If you RSVP for any event and then find that you will be unable to attend, please change the status of your RSVP. "No shows" will automatically be dropped from the group.

I look forward to seeing you at Scherer Thaxton on Feb. 26.
