"Walking with Ian is a truly immersive journey. I learnt about the history and nature of the magical landscape that surrounded us as we explored together. I loved the pace and how he made time to pause and look up. It is amazing to discover these truly wild spaces just outside London, I feel rejuvenated and inspired by my experience." - Sarah, London

The secluded Mimram Valley is one of Hertfordshire’s most diverse and beautiful landscapes. Following an countryside trail through rolling hills high above the historic Mimram Valley this walking journey of 10.5 miles follows, at times, the clear chalk course of the Mimram River. The rivers source trickles from the upper reaches of the Chilterns and flows down through this Paleolithic landscape where stone tools and artefacts have been found.

This trail begins in the sleepy village of north Welwyn and follows the high chalk hills, forest trails and dense pine woodlands of the region. Its winding route passes through churches from 1100AD and alongside the incredible Marden Hill House. The Catevellauni Tribe, a group of Celts is said to have come from modern day Belgium and France settled in this area due to its Solsitic importance.

After passing through the thatched roofed village of Bramfield the trail sweeps high into deep woodlands of Pine and Spruce where pheasant and roe deer roam. The journey concludes as it winds down through the open landscape into fragrant apple orchards and Tewin Wood. Join me on this trail of ancient Celtic history, beautiful rolling hills and secluded wild forests.
