Talad Noi is a living old Chinese community dated back to early Rattakosin era, or 2 centuries ago. It has always been an important business district since the old days as it situates on the Chao Phraya River, which has been our central naval trade route. Thus, our walk will be amid the Chinese cultural heritage in term of architecture, food, and way of living.
This walk would be about 5 Km long. We’ll start walking from MRT Hua Lamphong Station. Then we’ll walk on footpath along Charoen Krung Road, and later on little lanes in Talad Noi area. Sights will be shophouses and stalls which offer various artisan crafts, and local foods which should be safe for ones to try to appease your curious palate. You might spot some colorful and artistic paintings on the walls, which many have traveled far just to take photos with. You are free to make a stop to take a closer look at whatever that catches your eyes. We will go at an easy pace so you will have plenty of time to take pictures.
After Talad Noi, we will be walking onto Yaowarat/ China Town, which should be busy with food stalls on the roadside by the time we arrive. With tired legs and depleted energy, I’m sure we will find some salivating dishes at a food shop, and to sit down and rest our legs on this famous food haven. A perfect end to a day full of walking adventure, filled with laughter and good company of friends. From there you can get back to city via MRT Wat Mangkorn.
For any of us that still have energy left, we will continue onto the Luenrit neighborhood, which is the next intersection further from Yaowarat. The community will be hosting ‘Under the Same Moon’ event to celebrate the festive Chinese Moon/ mid-autumn Festival. The event program indicates various shows throughout the evening, such as Tales of thousand years of Thailand-China Relationship, Thai-Chinese contemporary musical performance, and Chinese Face-changing Opera.
