11th Still Dreaming MLKJ-Walk: Choose Metro Stop For Distance

Details
Please update any RSVP status changes in a timely manner. Manageable sized/leashed dogs permitted. Farthest distance approximately 20, largely flat miles.
Again we honor and celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Our, now monthly, "Dream" City Walk route has several easy access points to the DC Metro system, feel free to end your walk wherever you like, ensuring that you inform your leader first, please. The Smithsonian is the closest Metro stop to our start, a 15 minute walk to the MLKJ Monument book store which has a restroom located just across the street from the monument.
Arrive early enough to sign in and indicate where you intend to sign out. We’ll traverse past the Jefferson Monument and along the Wharf waterfront. Then pause at the Titanic monument for our obligatory photo op and continue to Nationals Park (2 miles) and the Anacostia Boardwalk with a pre-arranged restroom break at Agua 301 Restaurant: Located at the far end of the boardwalk’s cylindrical bridge.
We’ll soon pass the Navy Yard and hit the trails leading to an optional, one-mile loop of Heritage Island at RFK Stadium. Then we’ll visit Union Market, at six miles, for an outdoor lunch. Some may want to end there or at the Catholic U. Metro (7.5). Others will "march" on to the National Zoo (approximately 11 miles). Then complete the loop back to the MLK Monument start by 4pm.
In keeping with the Dr. MLKJ dedicated “day of service,” consider bringing a container for litter gathering/plogging? There will be a minimum of three restroom opportunities. Please dress accordingly in “breathable layers ” and remember that sufficiently hydrating is important in any weather.

This route is now a once a month event that will include detours to other locales that reflect the inspiringly progressive life led by Dr. King.
You can contribute route diversion suggestions of interest thereby deciding the route by clicking "discussions" and commenting on your preferences.
We also organize a more traditional, one-day 50-Mile Kennedy March in Indianapolis, annually each May, to recognize MLK's death and RFK's tribute speech there that same night. The brothers Kennedy and MLK are linked with Abe Lincoln in this song:
