Bay Farm Island Walk in Alameda

Details

We'll meet in the Harbor Bay Landing Shopping Center in front of the Safeway store, and walk to the Shoreline Park path with beautiful views of the Alameda shoreline and San Francisco. After about 2 miles or so, we'll turn into one of the canal paths that run through the center of Bay Farm Island. They're tree-lined paved paths that follow the canals through the rear of housing developments. This area is also a bird sanctuary with black-crowned night herons, great egrets and snowy egrets, coots, cormorants, and canvasback, bufflehead and mallard ducks.

As with any walk along the Bay, plan on cooler weather (or not). The walk along the Shorline Park will be breezier than the walk through the center of the island.

We'll meet for lunch after the walk at one of the restaurants in the shopping center. Bring money with you on the walk if you don't want to go back to your car to get it after the walk. Lunch cost could vary depending upon where we all decide to go.

PARKING: Free parking.

WALKING CONDITIONS: Flat and level paved walkways. The walk should take about 1.5 to 2.0 hours.

DISTANCE: 4-miles (I measured it on Google Maps).

RESTROOMS: Yes
