Have you ever done a night hike to watch the moonrise? Let's hike up to the mesa and watch the sun go down, and the Flower Moon come up. We will meet at the trailhead you see in the picture. It is steep for the first mile, but once on the mesa, it is fairly flat with amazing views.

Sunset: Around 7:50 PM. The peak of this full moon occurs earlier in the day (around 1:23 PM ET/11:23 AM MT), but the evening of May 1st will still offer a bright, full moon experience.

Tips for a Colorado Full Moon Hike

  • Visibility: With the full moon rising just after sunset, the trails will be illuminated, often allowing for hiking without a flashlight.
  • Gear: Always carry a headlamp, preferably with a red-light setting to preserve night vision.
  • Preparation: May in Colorado can still be cold and snowy at high elevations; check trails for mud or snow and bring extra layers.
  • Safety: The moon rise times vary, so plan to be on the trail at least an hour before the estimated rise time to enjoy the full display.
