Details
It’s been a couple of years since I’ve partaken of the Elephant Rock & Charlie’s Spring hike, which can be considered as one of the most interesting hikes at the lower elevations. The Elephant Rock & Charlie’s Spring hike is a moderately tough (because of the 7+ mile distance) combination of two trails at the Valley of Fire State Park, which is an approximately 45min drive from the MeetUp location at the Cannery Casino. The MeetUp location will be at the Cannery Casino on 3th floor of the garage near the elevators, where we’ll then carpool to the trailhead to save fuel. The trailhead is across from the John Clark Memorial Cross approximately 6mi from the park entrance fee station. Please review the directions to the trailhead provided in the “How to find us” section of the hike details. There’s also a fee of $15 per car to enter the park that should be shared by those riding in each vehicle, and National Park Passes aren’t accepted as it’s a State Park. Most of my hikes don’t entail scrambling; however, there’s a place with a rather easy scramble of about 10 feet, though it’s possible to avoid this area for those who prefer not to endeavor climbing down this portion of the hike. Adequate hydration and perhaps snacks are also advisable, though I usually provide energy food (chocolate) for the general consumption. Dogs and kids are welcome to attend, provided they don’t bother anybody and their owner cleans up after them. Lastly, please don’t sign up for any hike unless you’re rather certain of attending, as it discourages hikers who will attend from signing up if there should be too many hikers on the wait list. I’ll email the weather forecast to attendees the day prior when I make mention of the status of the hike. Happy trails…
