OUR USUAL MEETING NIGHT IS WEDNESDAY, BUT WE WILL MEET ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 30TH,

TO ATTEND: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/5943577540

We started our California History Movie Night in the winter of 2009, if memory serves correctly. Back then we met in person, had meals themed to the topic of the evening, and scowered libraries and EBay looking for video cassettes.... eventually online viewing and broadcasting improved exponentially. When Covid came along we switched to Youtube videos [which had also multiplie exponentially] since they could be shared on Zoom....and now that we have attendees from various states and countries, we continue to meet online.

We began our lengthy journey with the history of the people who formed San Jose and Sunnyvale, which took us to the Stevens-Townsend-Murphy Party, first wagon train to cross the Sierra Nevada with all of its members alive and intact -- and two babies born along the way. History is more fun and easier to understand if you start with things you already know something about. Moving westward, north and south from the Sacramento and San Jose areas, we pretty much covered the entire state a year or so ago.

So we are moving a bit more randomly now; started a few months ago at the far southeast corner of the state and moved back and forth, east to west, farther and farther north. At some point we skipped up to Los Angeles, which has histories one would never have imagined. It makes one long to have known L.A. when it was a lot smaller....
