Wanstead Flats - South Epping Forest Walk/Hike 7 miles (11 kms)

Join us for this walk/hike from Manor Park (TfL rail zone 3/4) to Wanstead (Central Line). The ground is relatively flat, though you need to walk easily at a normal pace. We shall have a short break in the middle of the walk.
We shall walk through Wanstead Flats and Epping Forest (south).
Walk length 7 miles/11 km approx. linear. The end time may vary, depending on pace and weather.
Please not that this is a full nature walk with no conveniences on the way (eg. coffee shop with toilets). There are only trees and grassland. Only RSVP if you're happy with that.
WANSTEAD FLATS
Sheep used to graze there. The name of a pub, 'The Golden Fleece' in Manor Park reminds us of the lucrative wool trade in Victorian times and earlier. The area included a marshland where peat was dug for house heating. In 1880 the City of London bought 184 acres of Wanstead Park from Lord Cowley, which too became part of Epping Forest. https://www.wansteadwildlife.org.uk
At the end of the walk, we'll have optional drinks at the George, opposite Wanstead station. It's large and beautiful Wetherspoon pub that reminds me of a Parisian grand cafe.

WALKING POLICY
Personal Safety:
The organizer will ensure that you are comfortable during the activity (e.g. toilet break, gentle pace...). However, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY and need to be fit for the walk. You should let the organizer know if you have a medical condition.
You need comfortable walking shoes preferably with ankle support, appropriate clothing (warm in winter, hat in summer...). It is also recommended to carry bottled water and some snacks.
Please let the organizer know if you need to drop off the walk, so we know you're well.
Dog Walks:
We welcome dogs. Please, check the dog policy of the parks visited.
