Mason falls to Mount Sugarloaf Summit loop GR3 Mod 15km 581 elevation max
Details
This is a stunning and rewarding loop walk take us into the heart of Kinglake National Park, taking in the dramatic Masons Falls, combining powerful scenery, bushfire‑regeneration landscapes, and rewarding viewpoints.
We begin by heading toward the impressive Masons Falls, a wide cascade dropping into a rugged, forested gorge. The viewing platform sits safely above the cliffs, giving you a clear look at the falls, the rock walls, and the deep valley carved below. The falls are especially dramatic this time of year.
The trail follows a mix of ridge lines, forest tracks, and well‑formed paths, offering a powerful look at bushfire recovery and the resilience of Mountain Ash, Stringybark, and Messmate forests.
Expect a solid, steady walk with some short steep sections. with mostly manageable gradiants and is not overly technical.
Along the way, we may see:
*Fern gullies
- Regenerating eucalypt forest
*Rocky outcrops - Wildflowers (seasonal)
*Parrots, honeyeaters, wrens, and the distinctive calls of Bell Miners
As we approach the Mt Sugarloaf summit area, the track opens to broader views across rolling hills, distant ranges, and the vast expanse of the national park. It’s a great spot to pause and take in the contrast between regrowth and untouched forest before taking the gentler descent down along another well formed track that completes our loop to the starting point
